Motorcycle Adventures in the Central
Appalachians: by Hawk Hagebak Motorcycle Author Releases new Guide to West Virginia and Virginia Almond NC--Motorcyclists who think they have West Virginia all figured out have another thing coming. It's a new motorcycle adventure guidebook from Hawk Hagebak, the author of two other guidebooks in the Motorcycle Adventures series. Hagebak's third book, Motorcycle Adventures in the Central Appalachians: Virginia's Blue Ridge, Shenandoah Valley, West Virginia Highlands, is now available. Hagebak is a metro-Atlanta motorcycle police sergeant and former coast guard navigator who has logged motorcycle tours in 48 states. The 216-page guide takes motorcyclists from bustling Market Square in the city of Roanoke, VA to the gigantic ridgetop windmills outside rural Davis, WV, and from the natural wonder of the Natural Bridge to the engineering wonder of the New River Bridge. Hagebak reminds the reader that the Mountain State had electricity before New York City, and is home to the awesome Green Bank Telescope and the National Radio Quiet Zone, both of which are included in his book. Outlining his favorite motorcycle routes, he chronicles a classic feud over a county seat, the invention of the mechanical crop reaper, and how mining changed the face of West Virginia for better and for worse. In between the tight turns, sweeping curves, covered bridges, tiny towns, and mountain passes of the Central Appalachians, he imparts tips on where to eat, stay, play, and relax, and provides alternatives to shorten or lengthen ech ride in the book. There's even a section on how to avoid a traffic ticket. The guide makes a perfect companion to Hagebak's first two motorcycle guides for the southern Appalachian region. Motorcycle Adventures in the Central Appalachians: Virginia's Blue Ridge, Shenandoah Valley, West Virginia Highlands lists 25 motorcycle rides, ranging from 7 to 166 miles in length, for motorcyclists of all stripes. Each ride description includes complete directions, a detailed map, estimated riding time, road conditions, and points of interest. The guide is available at selected bookstores, outfitters and motorcycle shops, and retails for $16.95. It's also available directly from the publisher for $21.20 postpaid.
