Since 1992, Milestone Press has been publishing adventure destination guides to the Southeast. Our focus is simple: we produce reliable, up-to-date guidebooks that give you outdoor adventure enthusiasts all the information you need to have a great experience in the Southeast, a region we know and love. We're located in North Carolina's Great Smoky Mountains, at the edge of the National Park. Most days from our office we can hear motorcycles cruising by on NC 28. Many days we'll see road cyclists pedaling up the hills toward Bryson City and cars with bikes on top heading to the Tsali trails. Boaters too pass by on their way to the Nantahala River or Fontana Lake. In the spring, Appalachian Trail thru-hikers are out and about and we'll see them thumbing their way into town. Milestone Press is owned and operated by Mary Ellen Hammond and Jim Parham. We began in 1992 with the publication of Jim's first Off the Beaten Track mountain bike guide and we've kept at it because we are passionate about the outdoors. Our backyard is our playground—we run, bike, and hike on nearby trails, and paddle on the rivers and lakes. Some of our favorite activities: backpacking in the Park and picking wild blueberries on the Parkway. Longer expeditions have taken us rafting in the Grand Canyon, biking in England, and tramping in New Zealand. And of course we spend a lot of time shaping these books so that you can get the most enjoyment out of your next adventure.

Our pub list is small and grows slowly, because we put a lot of energy into revising and updating our books on a regular basis and making sure new ones meet our standards for user-friendliness, clarity, and accuracy.
